The session reframes documentary craft not as a detached observation of the “Other,” but as the active stewardship of a relationship.

Rather than dwelling solely on technical execution (how), the workshop moves creators from overall intent toward the personal, pivotal question at the heart of any strong project: why me?

Through a three-step framework—The Window (recognizing who holds the frame), The Mirror (auditing presence, motivations, and biases), and The Bridge (building a safe, authentic space with the subject)—participants develop a more grounded perspective on their material. Ultimately, the process helps authors translate self-awareness into conscious, informed narrative and cinematic choices that resonate with authenticity.
